Learn to Hockey Skate

Kettler Capitals Iceplex offers Hockey specific lessons for skaters aged 4 and up.

We require skaters successfully complete Snowplow Sam 2, Basic 1 or Adult 1 in our Learn to Skate program before enrolling in our Hockey 1 class.  For more information about our Capitals Academy Hockey Skating Lessons, please click here.


Recreational Skating Lessons

Kettler Capitals Iceplex is proud to administer the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. We run classes for tots, youth, teens and adults all year round. Most of our sessions are 7 weeks long and include skate rental and a Public Skate Practice Card that allows you to attend one Public Session per lesson anytime during the duration of your series.

Figure Skating Lessons

Kettler Capitals Iceplex offers Figure Skating Lessons under our Sky High Skating Academy. Sky High Skating Academy is committed to developing figure skaters as early as Basic 3. If you are interested in taking your skills to the next level and have successfully completed Basic 2 in our Learn to Skate lessons, then SHSA is for you. Private Lessons

Our highly trained Kettler Capitals Iceplex Instructors do offer Private Lesson Instruction. Please remember that Private Lessons are intended to supplement group instruction. Group Instruction provides a much needed benchmark for skaters to guage their progress along side their peers.

If you are interested in private instruction, Kettler Capitals Iceplex can try to facilitate initial contact with an individual instructor by filling out the registration form below. Please remember that many instructors already have full schedules, especially during the winter months. Please make yourself available as often as possible to increase your chances of hearing from a coach.

Kettler Capitals Iceplex Instructors opperate as independent contractors in regards to Private Lessons. All scheduling and payments and any contractual obligations you make with them are made directly with the instructor.

Payment for the specific type of practice ice you receive your lesson on is made directly to the front desk PRIOR to getting on the ice and is NOT included in the price of the Private Lesson. Please be sure to have your instructor explain this before agreeing to a lesson.

Instructor pricing varies from $25-$45 per half hour lesson. Ice charges vary depending on the specific type of practice ice. Please confirm all charges with the Private Lesson Instructor before the lesson.

Guest Coaches may request privileges by emailing the skating director at Anyone found to be teaching without permission will be asked to leave the ice immediately.

Practice Ice

Kettler Capitals Iceplex offers several ways to practice your skills. Below is a brief discription of each. Please always check the daily schedule before heading to the rink for practice.

  • Public Skate- We offer Public Skating 7 days a week. Most Public Skates are open to all ages and levels. This is the perfect ice for the recreational skater to practice their skills. If you are enrolled in the recreational group lessons you can use your Public Skate Pass to attend one Public Session per lesson for FREE! Click HERE for schedule. Adults $9-Children(12 and under) $8-Skate Rental $5
  • Freestyle Ice- Freestyle Practice Ice is intended for skaters who have completed Basic 8 or Adult 4. We have a new freestyle schedule each month. Discount pricing is available.If you are interested in practicing your freestyle skills on this ice, please make sure you understand the rules, traffic patterns and pricing options outlined on our Freestyle Page.   • Power Ice- This is intended for hockey specific private lessons. No sticks or pucks are allowed on this ice. Students must wear full gear. Contact the Hockey Department for availability.
  • Power and Puck Ice- This is intended for hockey specific private lessons. This is the only Practice Ice that sticks and pucks are allowed on. Students must wear full gear. Contact the Hockey Department for availability.
  • Pick up Hockey and Stick and Shoot- This ice is intended for hockey players in full gear to practice. No lessons can be given on this ice. Both these programs are offered frequently. Check the monthly pick up schedule  or the monthly stick and shoot schedule for upcoming additions.
